Arrival
It was a pleasant arrival and the distributor came to get me from the airport which was nice. A good drive into town and off to Viseu, a town I never heard of, that had a gigantic, ornamental, giraffe outside.
I messaged some friends who recently moved back to Portugal and they were envious I was in Viseu which was a good sign. The town was nice, able to get around on foot and had a great park which I walked and talked during my daily phone calls with my (lovely) girlfriend.
Food
Really surprised by how diverse the food was at Portugal. I knew about pastel de nata, but I didn’t know about these sandwiches which had steaks and sausages with an egg on top in a bowl of tomato sauce. I didn’t expect an entire wild bore that was roasted and served with pork crackling.
Here’s to cheers-ing over a super bock!
Misc
Another nice surprise was stumbling upon the start of the wine trail in Viseu. It houses the Doa route of local wineries, with a lovely and quant wine tastings and a great selection of high-quality, low-cost options.
I’m currently going through my WSET training (wine training), so this was a beautiful timed addition to my trip.
